Barbados

Category: Blog&Tweet Old Post

BarbadosBarbados is a relatively small island with huge appeal for visitors  – well they do they say good things come in small packages!  This beautiful Caribbean island has lots to offer those looking to escape the unpredictable British weather.  However, there’s much more to Barbados than the fabulous weather, spectacular beaches and crystal clear waters.   Being relatively small, its easy (and safe) to go exploring;  take a tour round a rum factory, visit a sugar plantation or why not hire a car to get off the tourist track and discover the rugged east coast with its spectacular scenery; Barbadians drive on the left so it’s all very straightforward.   Visit Harrisons Cave, one of the islands greatest wonders or try Ziplining in Jack-in-the-Box Gully – a fantastic way to see the centre of the island.

Whilst the island retains an air of sophistication and Britishness, there is something to suit everyone when it comes to accommodation.  For families wanting good accommodation on a budget, the Bougainvillea Resort is a great choice with its relaxed atmosphere and handy kids club.  Plus the hotel even offers a baby-sitting service.  Crystal Cove is a very good choice for families looking for a high standard all-inclusive option.  This beautiful 4* resort has an impressive pool area, lush gardens and Tommy Turtle kids club.  If you’re looking for the very finest accommodation then the 5* Fairmont Royal Pavilion, tucked away on the West coast can’t fail to impress.  Not only does the hotel offer impeccable service and luxurious accommodation but it is also home to one of the most sought after restaurants on the island.

Top tip

On Friday and Saturday nights, don’t miss the Fish Fry at Oistins in Christ Church – mingle with the locals and dance the night away under the stars.  Dine on freshly grilled fish and enjoy an ice cold beer.

As the most easterly island in the Caribbean, Barbados is usually least affected by tropical storms so don’t necessarily dismiss visiting during the low season.
